The EU-Project INSPIRATION develops a Strategic Research Agenda for land use and soil management in Europe.
Soil and land are finite resources. How we use our soil and land resources is a core challenge for our aim of sustainable development for Europe and the world. The understanding of interactions of land use and the system "soil-sediment-(grozund)water" has improved significantly during the last decades due to research and knowledge transfer. However, the complexity of the systems and its interdependencies with the environment and the society are still not well understood or incorporated in practical advise for land management.
Important stakeholders from spatial planning, land use and soil management will contribute their knowledge to create sustainable perspectives for future research needs.
In Austria, the University of Life Sciences coordinates the project as National Focal Point, supported by the Environmental Agency Austria, AGES and BIOS Science Austria.
