Research on stress tolerances and climate change adaptation and mitigation potentials of main forest types in Bhutan

Stress experiments will be conducted on existing long term observation plots using throughfall exclusion manipulations at different altitudes in different forest types.

- Throughfall exclosure experiments: characterization of drought tolerance of two major forest types

- Greenhouse experiments:
characterization of drought tolerance of major conifer belt species

Mortality, biomass production, greenhouse gas balance and species-specific drought tolerance will be recorded. The experiments will lead to a greenhouse gas inventory and an assessment of resilience in the main forest types and will predict changes in the composition.
